Treena's Travels

This blog was set up to journal my experience of living in Nunavut and keep friends and family up to date on these happenings. It's a wonderful place, this hideaway in the north, and I'm loving my time here. An unforgettable place with unforgettable people. I'm lucky to be here.

Blizzard

Ladies and gentleman, we are home from school again! Right now I'm feeling for some of my fellow 'bloggers' in other communities because they aren't having the same fortune we are with our storms (fortune... misfortune??). Sorry guys! If I could send this one your way I would, believe me! But, if it helps, I am sending blustery vibes out to you as I write this!! :-) (I'm also trying to add some more links to my blog with your sites but am experiencing a bit of frustration with it. Hopefully this weekend I can get this figured out.)

Yesterday, I was watching the weather report for Edm and it was +3 so I'm feeling a bit tired of winter right now. February, I find, is the hardest month for me up here. I really should have booked out for PD week in two weeks. I think a week in Hawaii would have cured me of these winter blues rather nicely. Or, even a trip back home to see all my girls and hang out would have been super. Ahh well...

But, I suppose I can't complain. As I've said before, being in a grade two class makes any and all holidays just down right fun. And Valentines Day was no exception! I made everyone the same kind of cookies that my mom always made me and my sister for Vday when we were young and the kids loved them! And I now have 17 little Valentine cards for my scrapbook. One can never have too many Valentines Day cards! Or laughs for that matter. A few of the kids in the older grades, trying to maintain the coolness factor, took it upon themselves to wish me a happy VD. I thought it best to leave that one alone. :-)

And, I am a lucky girl because not only do I have a lot of love at the school, but the guys at the 12 plex came through for me too (Thanks Tania and Jenesta for letting your guys make me feel the love!). Todd and Chad, you two rock!!

Windchill: ?? The Weather Office isn't recognizing it (which may mean someone isn't manning the post as it's so bad at the airport I think), but the wind is gusting to upwards of 100 km/hr right now.

So how do you amuse yourself on the third day of a storm?

Well, you have to take your dog out even though it's not fit for man nor beast...

You strain to see out of windows that you can't easily see out of...

You have tea at the neighbours...

You clean up after puppy accidents...

You grumble at having your picture taken....

You goof around with friends...

You rough house with friends...

You chill out...

You check the internet, yet again, to see if the blizzard is going to keep you home from work tomorrow too...

You look out the window again and wonder at Mother Nature and all her glory.

Temp: -25
Windchill: -43
Gusting: 58-67 km/hr (expecting up to 110 tonight or tomorrow)

Home again today. Watched a couple of good movies: The Guardian with Ashton Kutcher and Kevin Costner and Open Season (an animation). A nice way to spend a blustery day. Looks like we may be home tomorrow too. Blizzard days are most definitely a perk to living in the North!

The Weather Office still says Blizzard but...

Well, school was cancelled this afternoon as it was predicted to get worse here but unless this big cloud is hiding something, I think someone may have goofed on that call. Oh well, I won't complain. I'm going to head to the Northern and see if there are any movies to rent. And I'm having a parka made for myself so I may drop off the material to the lady who is making it for me. We'll see how ambitious I feel cause I'm pretty sleepy today. Boy this working out in the morning thing sure knocks the wind out of your sails until you get used to it! Sheesh...

Blizzard

Well, it's 8:15 a.m. and school has been cancelled today. It is REALLY cold outside. Here's a picture of out my window this morning. Visibility is not bad but it's the windchill that's so deadly. It's insanely cold. The Weather Office is actually calling for this blizzard to last until Wednesday. It's funny because they have a big red banner on their site announcing 'BLIZZARD WARNING CONTINUED. WINDCHILL WARNING ENDED'. It's -53 outside. But thank heavens the 'warning' has been lifted!

And go figure that I got up at 6:15 this morning to work out before work. Oh well, it's nice to have it out of the way. Hey, what's that noise? Oh, that would be my bed calling me....

Well, tonight I'm having a few people over for homemade Chinese food and my house is a mess! I'm frantically cleaning but needed a break. And what better way to take a break than to watch an episode of Magnum on the big screen! My sister got me hooked on the series when I was home at Christmas and now that I have a projector, it's like I'm right there in Hawaii!

Tom Sellek is soo dreamy....... (I NEVER thought I'd use that word but he is one good looking man!)

Sigh.. still cold

Well, here are a couple of pics from this moring. It was really beautiful but the picture, of course, doesn't do it justice. The moon was amazing as it set and the sun rising at the same time was really cool.

And here are a few more pics that my sister sent me from one of her trips. They are so beautiful and in this weather let me tell ya, I am really wishing I was there on the beach!

Here are some pics from this the Sat morning ritual of hanging out next door at Tania and Chad's.

Sable (aka Chewy because she sounds like Chubaka from Star Wars) and Oli playing.

Oli in a sleeper hold. How he loves his guys and wrestling!

My new Crocs. Homely, but comfortable. And, according to This Hour Has 22 Minutes, I've given the finger to fashion and they are indeed 'Dorks' not Crocs. :-)

My guard dog.

My lapdog.

Tug of War with Chad.

Tania trying to encourage Sable to play and not sleep as she tends to do about 23 horus of the day! :-)

Oli hangin' with Tania, relaxin' and watchin' TV.
